Burnside Street is Portland’s iconic thoroughfare. It connects the east and west sides of the city via its namesake bridge and spans over 17 miles in length.

Lower East Burnside begins at the base of the bridge and continues to 14th Ave where it intersects with Sandy Blvd.

This small stretch of Burnside is flanked by the Kerns neighborhood to the north and the Buckman neighborhood to the south. There’s a mix of new and vintage apartments, single-family homes, and warehouses in its thriving industrial district.

The lay of the land in Lower East Burnside

The Burnside Bridgehead, an enclave of luxury apartments rising from the base of the bridge, is home to the city’s most forward architecture. But it’s also where you’ll find the Burnside Skatepark, a monument to Portland’s DIY culture.

A hip but gritty playground for the 21-and-over set, Lower East Burnside is teeming with fantastic bars, restaurants, and nightlife. But you’ll also find vintage shops and streetwear boutiques, dive bars and foodie landmarks.

You’ll see skaters grabbing a (vegan, veg, or meaty!) slice at Sizzle Pie, foodies crowded around Le Pigeon in anticipation of foie gras profiteroles, thrifters and Instagram husbands shopping and snapping selfies, and sleepy-eyed couples staying out late for date night at Bossanova Ballroom.

Lower East Burnside is the confluence of Portland culture—old and new.
